I must admit: I was extremely surprised when I found out Hussein Chalayan’s collection this season did not contain any loud messages concerning mother earth. I guess if this collection was to visit that familiar ground in the same sort of explosive way as previously, it would seem tedious and tiring, so I am glad he took a break from that. Excuse me for my 90’s references, but Hussein Chalayan’s Spring 2010 collection reminded me of sexy and sinister Jessica Rabbit (from “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”). Blame it on those oversized, shadowy sun hats, but the whole collection screams evasive class. Cut-out suits complimented see through skirts and shorts, bringing a little drama back to the workplace. Hussein Chalayan stood at the back of the runway disguised as a man at a pulpit with a baby grand piano as he presented his Spring/Summer 2010 RTW collection in Paris. Channeling the 50's with cone bras and his own sense of surreal fashion, Chalayan included pieces from his collaboration with Los Angeles based J Brand at the show which took place at Couvent des Cordeliers.
