Hypermiling 101

From:  christianpf.com
I first heard of Hypermilling when I was writing a recent post - 75 Gas Saving Tips . It seems to be a trend among drivers that is increasing in popularity in reaction to the rising gas prices . What is hypermiling? According to Wikipedia Hypermiling is: “Fuel economy-maximizing behaviors (and) techniques that drivers can use to optimize their automobile fuel economy. The energy in fuel consumed in driving is lost in many ways, including engine inefficiency, aerodynamic drag, rolling... Read Full Story

What Is Hypermiling?

The polar opposite to NASCAR and Formula 1 is hypermiling. The term was coined by Wayne Gerdes in 2004. It is used to describe to maximizing gas mileage by making fuel-conserving adjustments to one’s car and driving techniques. Hypermilers aim to exceed the manufacturers’ stated economy figures. Whilst most hypermiling is practised during everyday driving, it has now turned into a sport. World records were set for economy at the 2008 Maximum Fuel Economy contest held in Elkhart, Indiana... Thwarting The Hypermiler

From:  penshorn.com
I am convinced that high gas prices have caused people to lose their minds.  People are doing nutty things to save money.  I read an article about an 'amazing' guy that rode a bike to work taking 2 hours each way.  He saved a whopping $400 a month on gas.  Woo Hoo!  That 80 hours a month spent saving $400 bucks comes to $5 an hour.  Makes good financial sense if you are the fry guy at McDonald's. For the thrifty who have an aversion to exercise yet plenty of time, there is hypermiling.  It... Read Full Story
