Hypermiling is a proposed way to save gas using practice methods that most people don't practice in their daily commutes. This zine is a place for people to share tips and news on hypermiling.
Hypermiling Techniques. It seems to be being talked about a lot recently.
(More information can be found at Hypermiling Techniques for Better Gas Mileage .)
Hypermiling consists of a system of methods and techniques which one can use to reduce fuel consumption and get better gas mileage, thus spending less money on gas and emitting less toxic pollution into the environment. Due to soaring gas prices, many people have begun to study and practice the art, or the science, of hypermiling... Read Full Story
Never heard of hypermilers? Neither have I until recently, as high gas prices have brought more attention to these drivers who know how to get unbelievable miles per gallon from their vehicles.
Hypermilers save on gas by coasting for several blocks with their engine turned off, over-inflating car tires, driving well below the speed limit on freeways and making sure they don’t floor the gas pedal, reports USA Today .
Other hypermiler methods include driving with the air conditioning... Read Full Story
The Hypermiling Manual has thousands of gas saving techniques. I have put some of these techniques into practice, and yes..... it has made a MASSIVE impact on my fuel consumption. My Vehicle is a 1.9L TDI VW (which is renowned for good gas milage anyway). Before practicing Hypermiling I was averaging 39.7 MPG . Using only a handful of techniques in the Hypermiling Manual my average fuel consumption is now 48.9 MPG. That is a 23.1% decrease in my fuel consumption. In short.... that`s an extra... There are other techniques which I regularly practice... 1. I ALWAYS reverse into parking spaces ready to drive straight out of. Reversing on a warm engine uses alot less fuel than doing the same manouvre on a cold engine. 2. When starting my car, its engine started and away. I do not start my car and sit and wait. This follows the ZERO MPG rule seen in the previous video. 3. I accelerate smoothly, rather than banging my foot to the floor. Again , this uses alot less fuel than hard... Read Full Story
This new technique of driving promises more bang for your buck when it comes to gas mileage. However, is this dangerous? I did some research and here are some of my conclusions. Some of the techniques are nothing more than common sense. Lowering your speed, cleaning out unnecessary weight out of your car, I cannot stand a dirty car anyway. Using cruise control has some mixed opinion; I personally will never own a car without it. Here is where some suggestions get dicey. Slow down instead of... Read Full Story
Hypermiling -Manual is a personal study on the art of Hypermiling . With oil prices at record levels, and the price of gas in the U.S at $4.00 a gallon, and in the U.K at £5.00 a gallon (Yes... that`s nearly $10.00), Hypermiling is becoming more and more popular. For those who are new to Hypermiling , it is the art of driving your vehicle to its most economical levels, often exceeding the vehicle`s manufacturers fuel consumption figures. There are hundreds of ways that this can be achieved... Read Full Story
There are standard procedures for Hypermilers... These include.. 1. Keep moving as long as possible. 2. Keep the A/C switched off.... A/C increases fuel consumption by upto 15% 3. Keep the windows up. This reduces drag on the vehicle. Less Drag = More MPG 4. If you driving a pick up, drive with the tailgate down, again, this reduces drag. 5. Keep tyre pressures at their correct levels. Incorrect tyre pressures sre one of the biggest causes of increased fuel consumption. 6. Don`t be afraid to... Read Full Story
This is off topic, but what the heck. I just saw a news clip on KOMO TV on a driving technique called hypermiling.
After all of the “hype” was over, it boils down to one consciously practicing a bunch of driving techniques that I have known about all along to boost your vehicle’s fuel efficiency. [...]

Hypermiling: Quest for Ultimate Fuel Economy You probably assumed that the painfully slow car in front of you, inching toward the glowing red stoplight a half-mile away, was another distracted driver talking on his cell phone. Impatiently waiting while he coasted along, you had no idea that you were stuck behind a "hypermiler." Just what is a hypermiler? Hypermilers are drivers of both hybrid cars and regular vehicles who go to extraordinary lengths to get as much as they can from each gallon... Read Full Story
