Lawsuits Filed in Minneapolis Bridge Collapse

Several lawsuits pertaining to the 2007 I-35W bridge collapse in Minneapolis have been filed. The accident in August of 2007 killed 13 and injured more than 100. Lawsuits were filed Thursday for three victims who were injured and the family of one individual who died in the collapse. Those being sued are the consulting firm that evaluated the Interstate 35W bridge and the contracting company who was repaving the structure when it collapsed. U.S. Secretary of Transportation Deploys Team of Experts to Assist with Minneapolis Bridge Collapse

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Secretary of Transportation Mary E. Peters yesterday announced she has deployed a team to operate on-site in Minneapolis to coordinate the federal response, recovery and rebuilding effort following the collapse of the I-35W bridge. Secretary Peters said the team -- led by Federal Highway Administrator (FHWA) Rick Capka, a professional engineer and former U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Brigadier General -- will have expertise in bridge engineering, federal contracting, transit programs and environmental assessments. The 35W Bridge has collapsed about 3 miles from my mom’s home, where I grew up. Hundreds of people are hurt, cars fell in to the water, and lots of people looking for relatives. So people in Minnesota, be smart stay off cell phones, people who need the cell phones most, could be trying to get through to get help.
