Still Rhino--indeed. Canadian rightists hide behind libertarianism, which is a respectable philosophy, to promote a sexist, anti-union, anti-immigrant agenda.
True libertarians have no position on abortion, euthanasia, same-sex marriage, drug use and so on. These are matters of individual rights.
Play-libertarians like Iain G. Foulds use libertarianism to press a socially conservative position that opposes these freedoms. Hence they are...

Gerry Nicholls, political consultant and president of Libertas Post has a link to this Canadian Press article on Canadian conservatism, which makes the case that while the Conservative government is relatively strong and continuing to lead popularity polls, Canadians aren't actually becoming more conservative.
It's a long piece, and to be honest I zoned out about halfway through, largely because the argument strikes me as redundant. (No...

McGuinty has not closed his coal fired electricity plants because he has nothing in the works to replace them with. Having failed to plan for increased nuclear capacity, he is left to rely on wind turbines and giant mirroirs. Unless Ontarians don't mind sitting in the dark on calm nights, backup capacity is required, from fossil fired plants.
Covering Ontario's prime agricultural lands with giant windmills, would not allow for closing even...

John Mraz, a Liberal strategist who sends us occasional columns, is befuddled by the inexplicable (to him) success of Stephen Harper. How does he do it, he asks. He survived the coalition, the economic downturn, the fuss over detainees, the swine flu furor. Not only did he surivive, he prospered. He might as well have a majority for all the opposition he faces.Mraz outlines some “facts” he feels should counteract Canadians’ willingness to...

I'm a big fan of banks. I own shares in several Canadian banks, because even for an amateur like me it's almost impossible to lose: They have a near-monopoly to operate in a pool of 33 million people; any time they make a particularly collosal mistake (which happens with relative frequency) they just jack up fees until they've recouped the losses; they pay fat dividends, increase them regularly and never miss a payment. As long as you hold...

God must truly love this country; how else could it remain so effortlessly peaceful and prosperous despite the braying ninnies we insist on electing to run our governments?
Next time a politician insists it's essential he/she and his/her colleagues award themselves yet another pay raise and improved retirement scheme on the premise that you have to pay to attract top talent, cast your mind back across the past few weeks and the epic...

The editorial is right on the money. ckam has it right, it is the "economics" that we need to worry about. The AGW style economics is about the destruction of the free market and democracy. The true science of AGW was hijacked decades ago and the Green Party is complicit in the fraud.

John Moore makes a good point, and a common mistake, in his farewell column to the climate change debate (which is proving surprisingly popular.)
As I read it, the point he intended to make is that the two sides of the debate are so entrenched that it's pointless to argue with them. It's not really a debate, when you think about it, but two opposing squads of believers shouting insults at one another. (Actually, Moore suggests it's mainly the...

Anonimous66, I respect your standing and partly agree with your comment. BUT Supporting Carolyn Parrish' extremely anti-Canadian and senseless ant-US hysterical outburst are indications of serious mentally disturbed behavior. That is my opinion after dealing with individuals over 70 years.
By the way McCallion's case has not proven in our Court Systemyet yet. Thus contrary to the Napoleonic French Code, one is not guilty until that is legally...

This is probably going to expose my lamentable failureto appreciate ethnic sensitivities, but here goes:
There is an unusual case going on in the U.S. The University of North Dakota is under pressure to drop the name and logo of their hockey team, the Fighting Sioux.
You can see why: Fighting Sioux. It's named after an Indian tribe. The logo shows a Sioux warrior, complete with feathers. It's not unlike the crest of the Chicago Blackhawks.
The...
