Lifetime Is Remaking 'Beaches' With Idina Menzel
Did you ever know you were our hero, Idina Menzel?
Well, this is one way to honor Gary Marshall.
Lifetime is ready to remake the 1988 classic film Beaches, and it has signed Frozen powerhouse Idina Menzel to take over Bette Midler's role as CC. That means Menzel will be belting out Midler's classic tunes, “Wind Beneath My Wings,” “The Glory of Love,” and some new songs written specifically for the small-screen version. Don't be surprised if those classic songs are recorded with a fresh, new take, though!
Beaches centers around CC, who is an aspiring singer, and her wonderful, lifelong friendship with a rich girl named Hillary (the role was originally played by Barbara Hershey). The BFFs meet at the boardwalk in Atlantic City, New Jersey; however, the Lifetime remake will show them connecting at the Venice boardwalk in Los Angeles, California.
Lifetime has yet to cast the role of Hillary, but production will begin on August 15 in Vancouver. The small-screen remake will premiere on Lifetime in 2017.
