Even as the Pakistan’s ruling coalition has sought a confidence vote in stead of his impeachment, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf has been considering all options before him that would make his position safe and take turmoil away from Pakistan’s politics. The president has earlier refused to bow to the calls for his resignation and has said he would ‘face the impeachment motion with a democratic spirit.’ Speculation has been rife that Musharraf would quit rather than face impeachment, though his spokesman has denied that. Former Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf called Saturday for peaceful relations between nuclear-armed India and Pakistan to allow them to fight terrorism more effectively. There was still ample time before the opening ceremony, so he decided to call his good friend, Pervez Musharraf, who was coincidentally the president of Pakistan at the time. George W. Bush picked up the phone and pressed the button with Musharraf’s face on it. Within a few seconds president Musharraf was on the other line. George W. Bush found Pervez rather ... Read Full Story

Pakistani "President" Pervez Musharraf announced today that he will resign his position in the face of a move by parliament to impeach him over his attempts to impose an authoritarian rule over the country. Musharraf was already unpopular being Pakistan's local U.S. hand puppet in the region and coupled with his facade of an administration (which is not entirely unusual in Pakistan) the impeachment vote was inevitable. It is unclear whether Musharraf will remain in Pakistan or go into exile, and some in the opposition party are calling for him to be charged with treason, which carries a maximum penalty of death. Secretary of ... Read Full Story
Filed under: AfghanistanPervez Musharraf, the former president of Pakistan, writes in Wednesday's Wall Street Journal that "the exit strategy from Afghanistan must not and cannot be time related." Musharraf argues that the United States had the support of the Afghan people after "liberating" them from the Taliban in 2001, but that popular opinion turned sour when the victory did not lead to a stable, representative government. Now, the former...
