A community portal about Iggy Pop with blogs, videos, and photos. According to Wikipedia.org: James Newell Osterberg, Jr., better known by his stage name Iggy Pop, is an American rock singer and occasional actor. Although he has had only limited commercial success, Pop is considered one of the most important innovators of punk rock and related styles. He is sometimes referred to by the nicknames "the Godfather of Punk" and "the Rock Iguana", and is widely acknowledged as one of the most dynamic stage performers of rock. Pop was the lead singer of The Stooges, a late 1960s/early 1970s band that was highly influential in the development of Heavy Metal. The Stooges became infamous for their live performances in which Pop leapt off the stage, smeared raw meat and on one occasion peanut butter over his chest and cut himself with broken bottles. Many subsequent performers have imitated Pop’s antics.
Hot on the heels of his reunion with noise-punk godfathers the Stooges, few expected Iggy Pop's next move to be a hot N'Orleans jazz and clunky acoustic blues-imbued recording based on Michel Houellebecq's scorched-earth novel, 'The Possibility of an ...

Review:
With the recent Stooges reunion, 62-year-old Iggy Pop proved
that old guys can still be punk-rock bone-crushers. This bizarre
foray into French jazz, Dixieland swing and lite Euro-trashy
electro (inspired by nihilist-chic novelist Michel Houellebecq)
proves they can also be insane. Yet despite some uproariously bad
crooning (in both French and English), this isn't always as
terrible as it is crazy. Iggy's licentious...
Besides jerking around with Iggy Pop on Letterman, newly sober dance-music goof Fatboy Slim is working on a concept album with David Byrne about Filipino sovereign Imelda Marcos, based on the pair's 2006 stage production Here Lies Love. He plays at Terminal 5. Meanwhile, Iggy chats with the New York Timesabout his new French troubadour phase.
If you work downtown, take your lunch to the Staten Island Ferry's Whitehall Terminal, where the...
Iggy Pop performed with Fatboy Slim (as the Brighton Port Authority) on Letterman last night (6/22), and he'll do it again tonight on Fallon. Maybe Iggy will show up at Terminal 5 on Wednesday too, after he's finished speaking...

Longevity is one of the greater, if rarest, achievements in pop music. With it, however, comes the burden of reinvention and the dilemma of what to do when, say, you once claimed you wouldn't be singing...

Iggy Pop calls Fred Durst a thug: This week in rock feudsEntertainment WeeklyBut watching the original video, I was more struck by just how awesome this guy still is as he engagingly rambles on about French author Michel Houellebecq, New Orleans music, and his cute dog, all in a voice oddly reminiscent of Sam Elliott narrating ...
Iggy Pop turns to jazz standards because he ”just got sick of listening to idiot thugs with guitars.” Although he takes inspiration from Louis Armstrong and Jelly Roll Morton, Préliminaires feels more like European pop than jazz. He flips “Les Feuilles Mortes,” one of the most covered jazz ballads, into a nihilistic French romance. On [...]
Pop: An old friend of mine, bassist Hal Cragin, sent me these old tapes from stuff I did, jamming on my acoustic guitar 10 years ago, real quiet music. One of the songs was “Autumn Leaves,” and I thought it fit the project I was doing nicely. As ...
Iggy Pop, who defined the role of the crazed rock frontman as far back as 1969, has now recorded an album that features French and Brazilian standards, some ballads, a tune lovingly ripped off from Louis Armstrong’s early years, and only one real rocker. People are surprised.
This is because people haven’t been paying attention. Iggy has been dipping occasionally into the “standards,” what many call The Great American Songbook, for years in...
