A community portal about Iggy Pop with blogs, videos, and photos. According to Wikipedia.org: James Newell Osterberg, Jr., better known by his stage name Iggy Pop, is an American rock singer and occasional actor. Although he has had only limited commercial success, Pop is considered one of the most important innovators of punk rock and related styles. He is sometimes referred to by the nicknames "the Godfather of Punk" and "the Rock Iguana", and is widely acknowledged as one of the most dynamic stage performers of rock. Pop was the lead singer of The Stooges, a late 1960s/early 1970s band that was highly influential in the development of Heavy Metal. The Stooges became infamous for their live performances in which Pop leapt off the stage, smeared raw meat and on one occasion peanut butter over his chest and cut himself with broken bottles. Many subsequent performers have imitated Pop’s antics.

LONDON (Reuters Life!) - Punk rocker Iggy Pop won the living legend award late on Monday at the Classic Rock Roll of Honour Awards. Ronnie Wood was also among those honored at the London event, organized by Classic Rock Magazine, picking up his outstanding contribution award from The Who's Pete Townshend. The magazine said the prize was in recognition of "his musical achievements with The Jeff Beck Group, The Faces and now The Rolling Stones, and honoring his ageless presence on the scene." AC/DC won album of the year for "Black Ice," which debuted at No. 1 on album charts in 29 countries when ... Read Full Story

Iggy's 'King of the Dogs' interactive video... The timing of Iggy Pop's album Preliminaires is probably a product of coincidence and fate rather than careful planning, but it's hard to ignore the fact that just a few months after the unexpected death of Ron Asheton put the Stooges into limbo (at least for a while), Iggy has released an album that almost entirely avoids the issue of rock & roll. In a publicity piece for Preliminaires , Iggy wrote "I just got sick of listening to idiot thugs with guitars," and the man whose music helped inspire so many of those thugs keeps a ... "Literature's like coke and music's like heroin! Literature sharpens the mind, music stupidifies," laughs punk legend Iggy Pop, whose new album is inspired by a French novel about "death and sex". Released this week, this latest offering from the long-haired, blue-eyed 62-year-old godfather of punk not only takes its inspiration from Michel Houellebecq's novel "The Possibility of an Island" but also carries a French title, "Preliminaires" (Preliminaries). Why? "I felt that the whole plot of the novel is a preliminary to death," he said in an interview. "And at my age everything you do is a preliminary to death: whether you're gonna fuck or ... In 2002 it was Mario Lemiuex. In 2006 it was Joe Sakic. And if there was ever any question on who should bear the "C" for the 2010 installment of Canada's Olympic men's hockey team, well simply put, there shouldn't be. Jarome Iginla should be the obvious choice for Steve Yzerman and company whether or not Sidney Crosby and Scott Niedermayer are available. In fact the only thing more guaranteed than Iginla leading this addition of Team Canada...

I am a music addict. I admit it, and I'm getting help for it. As far as I am concerned, the best time in music was The Punk Era, which can basically be traced to 1978-87. Of course, a discussion of The Punk Era has to include the introductory era of Glam, led by The God of music, David Bowie, and his soul brother, Iggy Pop. Iggy is probably the "missing link" so to speak, between the glam of the Ziggy Stardust era and the punk movement in NYC...
