The security of an Arizona sheriff who has aggressively cracked down on illegal immigration is under review after a shooting scare involving CNN commentator Lou Dobbs. A bullet struck Dobbs' New Jersey home on Oct. 5. On his radio show this week, Dobbs connected the gunshot to his advocacy for a crackdown on illegal immigration. Authorities in New Jersey say they're still investigating and have not yet identified a suspect. They noted that small-game hunting season is under way. PHOENIX (Reuters) - An Arizona sheriff known for cracking down on undocumented migrants is conducting an immigration and crime sweep around Phoenix, less than a day after federal authorities curbed his powers to make immigration arrests. Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio dispatched deputies on a two-day "crime suppression" operation in the western Phoenix valley on Friday, stopping and arresting at least eight people for minor offenses who could not prove that they were in Arizona legally. U.S. Border Patrol agents says several groups of illegal immigrants from China have been arrested in southern Arizona in recent days. Border Patrol agent Colleen Agle says it's part of a trend that has seen increasing numbers of Chinese migrants trying to sneak into the U.S. from Mexico.
