A community portal about Indie rock with blogs, videos, and photos. According to Wikipedia.org: Indie rock is a genre of alternative rock that primarily exists in the independent underground music scene. The term is sometimes used interchangeably with underground music as a whole, though more specifically implies that the music meets the criterion of being rock, as opposed to indie pop or other possible match-ups. These criteria vary from an emphasis on rock instrumentation to more abstract rockist constructions of authenticity. It is however not uncommon to see a variety of instruments that are rarely used in other rock genres, such as the violin.
If you love writing about music on Squidoo, naturally you'd want your readers to listen to what you're raving about. Fortunately there are various ways to add music to your lenses but I've found that Grooveshark is the best option for me because of their vast collection of music that ranges from the ubiquitous to the hard-to-find. I will show you how to do that in a while.
If you've chanced upon my alternative music and indie rock lenses, you'll have noticed that the songs I often refer to... Read Full Story
Normally, Philippine media is pretty good at playing the local version of Where's Waldo when it comes to international news. In any given high-tension international conflict or major entertainment event, someone is out there bound to be determining if there are any Filipinos involved. You have to admit, we've become a rather global people, albeit not necessarily in the front lines most of the time. We're subtle that way - more behind-the-scenes in that respect, I suppose. As much as I pride... Read Full Story

Last night, the K&M Bar in Williamsburg held an ultra-hip, rock and roll special spectacle devoted to some pre-release tasty tunes from 2 of the most anticipated releases from early 2008. Other Music sponsored the event and immediately caught my attention with a promise of $2.00 Amber Bock drafts, oh and a full spin of Vampire Weekend ’s debut and Black Mountain’s new disc, In the Future . The scene felt a little flat, there didn’t seem to be much buzz about the evening, but if there’s one... Read Full Story
As many of you know, Jen's having a great week. Her Red Sox clinched the series over the Angels to make the semi-finals (or whatever you call them...? I have no idea what I'm talking about in baseball-speak)--and just one week ago, she was inches away from the grass watching them win the first game of that beautiful winning series. I wasn't with her that night. Instead, I was trucking my junk over to the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, an oldie-but-goodie LA venue better known for punk rock... Read Full Story
Last night, we caught the Black Kids show at the El Rey. There were a surprising number of geezers in the audience (we count ourselves among them). Which is funny, because what we love about Black Kids is how young they are--young, fun, and unjaded. They were stoked to be playing a packed house in L.A. They don't even have their stage banter down yet, unless you count Reggie Youngblood using "fuckin'" and "motherfuckers" a lot. Sometimes Reggie sang off-key. Their set was short, because as... Below is an assembly of some of the most awesome collaborations by renowned alternative music artists. Read the rest of the article and listen to the playlist. Read Full Story
American Princes (minus the guy on the right) are back with their fourth album, Other People , which was released on the 15th this past week. The group from Little Rock, AR is composed of Luke Hunsicker (Bass), Collins Kilgore (Lead Guitar, Vocals), Matthew Quin (Drums), David Slade (Rhythm Guitar, Vocals), Will Boyd (Lead Guitar, Keyboard). The group picked up Boyd in 2006 who was the former guitarist for Evanescence. AP's sound is highly accessible - their lyrics are nonchalantly sung, the... Read Full Story
We'll admit--we can't help but be a little biased towards loving the London-based singer/songwriter Clara Belle. She's so heavenly gorgeous we can barely take our eyes off of her. Speaking of which, stop looking at her, dagnabbit! Read this! Eyes to the left! To the left! Half-Scottish/half-Japanese, raised in Osaka and schooled in the UK, she's a testament to why race/culture mashing is so freaking cool. Soft-stepped breezy melodies punctuated by bright, punchy vocals, and seminal rock... Read Full Story
The more I listen, the more I’m fascinated. I can’t focus on a single angle of their art. The hints and whispers, or the depth and variety somehow secluded among such a sprawling achievement of rock and roll. This is why the importance of EPs are so profound. It’s almost as if the artists doesn’t have to engage with the process of making one specific theme of music, as it is normally associated with a full album. The Morning Benders are testing their love for Dream Pop, Psychedelia, and... Read Full Story
