Laser Hair Removal Guide

Epilation by laser or more popularly known as laser hair removal is one of the most successful treatments possible for unwanted excess hair growths. This is one treatment that is performed and operated solely by dermatologists, and is considered as one of the safest permanent hair removal methods possible.

How Does Epilation By Laser Work?

Laser treatment basically works this way: laser rays are introduced to the area where there is problematic hair growth. The light is directed at the melanin of the hair, destroying the hair matrix, and weakening the hair shaft’s hold on the follicle. Eventually, with further treatments, the follicle becomes so porous that any hair will not be able to grow there anymore.

After each laser treatment, cooling agents are applied to the problematic area to invigorate the skin and the tissues surrounding the hair follicles.

One of the primary advantages of laser hair removal is that is it one of the most permanent ways of removing unwanted hair on any part of the body. Laser treatments usually take 6 to 8 sessions in order for the permanence to remain, which remains a viable option to many people with troublesome hair growth. Also, if you compare this to electrolysis, which is a life-long treatment method; laser hair removal entails only a specified amount of time for the treatment to be completed.

This kind of treatment is also considered as relatively pain-free, especially if you compare this with the pain of threading, tweezing and waxing. It also has the advantage of being able to remove hair in most places where hair removal creams cannot handle, particularly the face, the genital regions and the sensitive areas like ears and nipples.

One more advantage of the package is that dermatologists are guaranteeing your personal safety with this one – that is, if you do avail the services of licensed and practicing dermatologists who have the necessary permits to carry on laser treatments.

Disadvantages of Laser Hair Removal

There are two main drawbacks to laser hair removal though. One: not all people seem to respond to laser treatments. There are a select few people who seem immune to any form of laser treatments, and therefore epilation using this method invariably shows little (if at all) hair shedding in the area. The only way to really know if laser treatment is really for you is to observe your body carefully after the first laser treatment. The area exposed to the laser should show significant hair shedding within days (sometimes as long as 2 to 3 weeks.) If there seems to be no hair shedding at all, then it is a positive sign that laser treatment is not for you.

Two: laser treatments are undeniably expensive. Laser treatment costs range from $1,500 to $2,500, and this is exclusive of dermatologists’ fees and whatnots. Celebrity or designer doctors often charge higher because of their names, so you can expect a lot of cash rolling when it comes to this kind of hair removal treatment.
