How To Sell In A Tough 2008 Holiday Season by Andrew Gowans

—— Cashing In During The Christmas Season? ——–

Christmas is only 4 weeks away and (if you celebrate it)
you are probably starting to shop for presents.

Even if you don’t celebrate Christmas, the opportunity
to cash in online during the holiday season is bigger
than ever….or is it?

This year, we are all feeling the affects of this global
recession we’re in the middle of in one way or another.

This means that people will be much more careful about
what they buy and “how much” they spend this year on
gifts and celebrations.

=========================================
How does this affect us as a marketer?
=========================================

This does not mean people will stop buying!

It just means that we will have to be a little more
consumer conscious in our marketing attempts.

- X-mas Terminology

Not everyone is Christian or celebrates Christmas.
Watch out for how you word your offers. You don’t want
to offend prospects so consider using terms like:
“End of year sale”, “End of year discounts”, “Holiday
season clearance”.

- Offer Free Shipping

If you sell physical goods, offer free shipping as
that will relieve some cost for your customer and
make your product more attractive than your competitors’.

- Offer Discounts

This can work with digital and physical products.
Offer a special holiday season discount coupon for
your products. Perhaps you can offer a discount
on bulk purchases. Say “place an order over $100 and
save $20%” for example.

- Offer Free Bonuses

Package your products with free bonuses. Even if your
price tag is a little higher the the next guy’s,
customers won’t fringe if they can see value for money.

- Secure Ordering

Internet scams such as phishing and identity theft
are always a threat to consumers online. Make sure
your website provides secure ordering options. It
never hurts to put your telephone number on your
website too to add to the safety factor.

- Use Cause Marketing

With the world the way it is, we should not forget
those with nothing at this special time of year.
Why not donate a portion of your proceeds to a charity
to help children less fortunate?

Let’s make this holiday season of 2008 a profitable one
and a launch pad into a successful 2009!
