Interracial couple denied marriage license in Louisiana A Louisiana justice of the peace said he refused to issue a marriage license to an interracial couple out of concern for any children the couple might have. ************ It's great to see a glimmer of hope in this increasingly dark world, a judge who exercises common sense and respects our God-given differences and doesn't want to see them adulterated. Long time no post, everyone. So, what's new in the land of Zhindian Affairs? Mr. Salt was Employee of the Quarter earlier this year. I'm was (and still am) going through a massive writer's block. Which accounts for my lack of postings. But, that's not all. I am pleased to finally announce the Tasty Salt Clan is well on its way! Yes, after many prayers and tears, and fighting with my PCOS, I am finally pregnant. And for an added bonus: I'm going to have twins. I have to put this squarely in the hands of Lord. An interesting conversation has begun on American Creation, where my friend Jon Rowe blogs along with several others from every side of the question of religion and the founding fathers (including frequent Dispatches commenter King of Ireland). The discussion is largely with Tom Van Dyke, who has commented here as well. The discussion is over conservative originalism in its various forms vs. the kind of liberal originalism (or more accurately...

Although both Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) and Sen. Mary Landrieu (D) have publicly condemned Justice of the Peace Keith Bardwell for refusing to issue marriage licenses to interracial couples, Sen. David Vitter (R) has stayed noticeably silent. More amazing video from the fearless Mike Stark.Just a couple weeks ago, a Louisiana Justice of the Peace refused to marry an interracial couple. That was a huge news story. And, it evoked a lot of discussion about the 1967 United States Supreme Court ruling in Loving v. Virginia, which found that laws banning interracial marriages were unconstitutional. A couple weeks ago, Louisiana's Senator David Vitter, the hooker loving Republican...

I'm trying to imagine the board of HRC or GLAAD or NGLTF or GLSEN or Lambda Legal appointing a director who opposed interracial marriage or was against the renewal of the Voting Rights Act or was critical of affirmative action. But it's impossible to imagine a gay rights group appointing a racist bigot as its executive...
