A tip from a reader came in with the news that Orlando Magic rookie Guard Courtney Lee will return to the starting lineup for Game 1, replacing J.J. Redick, who took Lee’s spot after the sinus fracture he received in the first round series with Philadelphia. Per the tip: Coach Stan Van Gundy feels Lee matches up better with Cavaliers guard Delonte West, “who puts the ball on the floor more and attacks with the dribble.” Redick capably defended Ray Allen in the second round, but Lee is... The “ Cleveland Plain Dealer ” has reported that Cleveland Cavaliers rookie forward J.J. Hickson is expected to be out of action for as long as the next 2-3 weeks. Reports out of Cleveland are that the former player from North Carolina State has been hampered with pain in his lower back. Team doctors do not believe that it is more serious than muscle soreness and are hoping that rest will be all that is needed. Hickson has played in 62 out of the Cavaliers’ 78 games this season. He has... Read Full Story
Charles Barkley has made a second career out of saying silly things. And seeing as his own TNT colleagues often make fun of his lack of knowledge when it comes to non-stars in the NBA (”Who He Play For?”), it’s easy to just tune Chuck out when he tries to provide insight beyond the Chris Paw-woll and Kobeh Braaaahnt level. During the 2008 NBA Draft, the Cavaliers had a couple of needs that Danny Ferry was looking to fill. The backcourt depth was suspect at both spots, as well as the front court power positions. The four and five slots were the more pressing need, since it was loaded with slower big men like Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Anderson Varejao, Joe Smith (had yet to be traded), and Ben Wallace. Developing a young big to take Joe Smith’s minutes was probably #1 on Ferry’s mind. Read Full Story

Last night welcomed back the return of Ben Wallace to the Cavaliers frontcourt. In fact, the arena team shop was holding a Welcome Back Ben sale by displaying his jerseys proudly in the entrance of the store. But what his return also marks is the addition of another body to the Cavaliers post game - one that is much-needed with news that J.J. Hickson will miss up to three weeks with some lower back issues.
An MRI... Read Full Story
Since we all love speculation, why not look at what other moves Danny Ferry may have in the hopper as we continue this offseason journey?
While discussing the Anthony Parker signing, Bob Finnan of the Morning Journal had the following :
One rumor floating around had the Cavs sending guard/forward Wally Szczerbiak and forward/center J.J. Hickson to Charlotte for forward Gerald Wallace in a sign-and-trade.
The Cavs hold Hickson in high regard, but Wallace is a stud defender. He also... Read Full Story
If you were a part of our Live Blog yesterday evening, you were a part of the surprise that many of us felt with several first round selections. Russell Westbrook going fourth overall, Sacramento going with Jason Thompson. The list goes on. But when the 19th selection was named, and J.J. Hickson scrolled across the screen, I really didn’t know what to think.
I was screaming Darrell Arthur from the second he slipped past the Wizards. But the fact the Arthur did not hear his named... Read Full Story
Going into the most recent NBA Draft, it could be argued that Danny Ferry needed to draft a guy that would be considered more “NBA Ready,” as opposed to banking on pure upside. When we left the night with J.J. Hickson in tow, many people were left scratching their heads which lead to many posts in a don’t-jump-off-of-the-ledge fashion.
After a superb summer league, that actually found him listed as the top power forward on SI, the fact that I now read this news has me admittedly... Read Full Story
