Irish music producer Jacknife Lee is best known for his work on U2's album of the year and Grammy winner "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb". He also worked on Snow Patrol's "Final Straw" and is now beginning work with R.E.M. to produce what will be their 14th studio album.
Who is Jacknife Lee
Garret "Jacknife" Lee is a Grammy Award winning music producer and remixer. His most well-known project to date has been as one of the producers for U2's 2004 release How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb.
Jacknife Lee started as a guitarist for the punk band Compulsion, he then pursued a solo career in the field of electronica after the band's break-up. His first solo work, the EP Cookies, was released under the name Jacknife Lee in 1999 by Pussyfoot Records, a label founded by Howie B.
His first album Muy Rico (also released in 1999) was heavily influenced by big beat and was positively received by DJs around the world. His second album Punk Rock High Roller took a different turn, mixing big beat with 70's funk and various other musical styles. The record was well received by critics and broke sales records.
His third album To Hell With You I'll Make My Own People was recorded under the alter-ego Jack Planck for the One Little Indian label and also broke sales records.
Jacknife Lee produced Snow Patrol's 2004 album Final Straw which attracted the interest of rock music veterans U2. Jacknife Lee contributed production to How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb for which he shared two Grammy Awards, and he also performed keyboards and synthesizers on the album. He remastered the entire U2 catalogue for the Apple Computer iTunes exclusive The Complete U2.
Lee also produced Snow Patrol's 2006 album Eyes Open; Kasabian's debut album Kasabian; the single Bullets from Editors' debut album The Back Room. Vaux's second album Beyond Virtue, Beyond Vice; and Vega 4's debut album You and Others. He recently worked with Bloc Party producing their latest album A Weekend in the City, released in early 2007.
On March 9 2007 R.E.M. announced that Jacknife Lee will produce the band's next album.
