His notable film roles include the father figure of a New England commune in Alice's Restaurant, and an FBI agent in Dog Day Afternoon. He died of cancer at age 55.

James Broderick will be a single child for not much longer.
James Broderick welcomed some new siblings into the family.

The son of Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker, who delievere twins via surrogacy today.

Congratulations to Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick! The couple is finally welcoming their twins into the world, Barbara Walters announced on The View this morning. The actors were both present with the surrogate mother when the babies (both girls) were born at the East Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry early Tuesday.

While Parker and Broderick have said they're "overjoyed" about the new additions to their family, there's been no word on how six-year-old James Wilkie feels to be sharing the attention. Controversy has surrounded the couple ever since they announced they were using a surrogate to have the twins. Parker publicly addressed the subject, noting that the surrogate had received threats and that her privacy had been invaded, even though the couple never revealed her identity.

Most recently, two police chiefs in Ohio allegedly plotted to break into the surrogate's home just to dig up some juicy material for the tabloids. It's safe to say the generous woman is probably thrilled to have those babies out of her body.
