Pittsburgh Steelers James Harrison Free Speech Costs

Pittsburgh Steelers James Harrison, the NFL Player of the Year, is about to find out that free speech costs and sometimes your best off not to be true to yourself, shut up and go with the flow then to burn bridges for the rest of your life. James Harrison you see decided to turn down an invitation to join the rest of his Pittsburgh Steelers teammates honoring them at the White House by President Obama which is his right. However, he had to know that this would not sit well public relations wise with the rest of the United States. Free Speech or freedom of expression whatever you want to call it, costs. Is it really worth it?

I once was one of 3 guests of honor at a party held by my company for leaving for another job and I really didn’t want to go to the party because the powers that be basically forced me to get another job. I was planning not to go as I felt that by going I was being the equivalent of a “Prison Bitch” but luckily someone talked some sense into me as they convinced me that giving up my pride for 2 hours is worth not burning future bridges. They were right. Funny thing is, I actually had a good time at the party. It’s a sad thing that James Harrison doesn’t really have the liberty to chose not to be politically correct and not go to the White House but unfortunately that is reality and sometimes the smart intelligent common sense move is just to go with the flow. James Harrison might not realize it now but his White House Snub is going to follow him for the rest of his life as he’s a public figure and he would have been better off shutting up and smiling for pictures at the White House. Freedom of Speech costs.
