Officials at a prison hospital say chronic medical problems are complicating a psychiatric evaluation for the 89-year-old man accused of fatally shooting a guard at Washington's Holocaust museum. U.S. District Judge Reggie B. Walton granted an eight-week extension for the evaluation of James von Brunn. Walton said the warden at Butner Federal Medical Center in Butner, N.C., requested the extension because several chronic ailments were preventing officials from conducting necessary tests. The report on von Brunn's competency to stand trial had been expected at the end of November. Monday's order extends von Brunn's time at Butner to Jan. 2. Von Brunn is accused of ... Read Full Story

Once again the pundits are dragging out their tired old guilty white asses and lecturing us about the immorality and social irresponsibility of criticizing the first African-American president. Any criticism of the presiden t is verboten, not only because it is so boneheaded wrong, but these critiques encourage homicidal creeps like James B Von Brunn , the Holocaust Museum shooter . A hospital rabbi who comforted the family of a security guard killed at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum has been fired for speaking and writing about the experience. Rabbi Tamara Miller wrote on a Washington Post blog in June that "racism and bigotry rang out on the National Mall" when a shooter walked up to the museum June 10 and killed security guard Stephen T. Johns. He died at George Washington University Hospital. The hospital fired Miller five weeks later, saying her essay and comments to a reporter violated hospital policy and federal patient privacy rules. Miller spoke about why she attended Johns' funeral. ... Read Full Story

The 89-year-old white supremacist accused of shooting dead a black security guard at Washington's Holocaust Museum is too dangerous to be free despite his advanced age, prosecutors argued Wednesday. James Von Brunn, who faces possible execution if convicted of the first degree murder of 39-year-old Stephen Tyrone Johns, told the court at his first appearance that the US constitution accorded him a "fair and speedy trial. "I am a United States citizen, and as a US Naval officer, I swore to protect my country," Von Brunn said before being advised by Judge Reggie Walton to remain quiet. Von Brunn is accused of opening fire ... Read Full Story

The Virginia Holocaust Museum is showing the film “The Unknown Solider” tonight at 7. The film, directed by Michael Verhoeven, documents the Wehrmacht exhibition as it made its way around Germany from 1999 to 2004. This exhibit challenged the once-pervasive view that the common German soldier was generally unaware of the atrocities committed during the Holocaust.
