By Phil Zahodiakin The Jamestown Recycling Committee will examine the feasibility of requiring residents to use purpose-labeled bags for the household waste they bring to the transfer station. A “pay-as-you-throw” system was one of the many topics addressed during the second meeting of the committee, which will explore ways to increase the town’s recycling rate. read more  

A Jamestown woman is safe after being taken against her will Wednesday morning, thanks to the efforts of several law enforcement agencies in the region. Around 5:30 a.m., the Jamestown Police Department received information that a female had been kidnapped in the city and was in a red Plymouth Breeze with the suspect, 55-year-old Lakewood resident Michael Beeb.

The Jamestown Skating Academy, the Junior Guilders and Inifinity Music presented "Ice Christmas" at the Jamestown Savings Bank Ice Arena on Sunday. It was the first time the nationally renowned skating club presented a Christmas show.

The Jamestown Local Development Corp. has unanimously approved the sale of the former Aldo's restaurant on Third Street to John Calamunci. The JLDC's decision Wednesday, coupled with similar decisions from the Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency and the Jamestown Urban Renewal Agency, paves the way for the City Council to take action on the sale during its Dec. 21 voting session.

JAMESTOWN — High Point Road has reopened.The N.C. Department of Transportation said Norfolk Southern has completed the work on the railroad bridge that crosses High Point Road near Vickery Chapel Road.The major road between Greensboro and High Point has been closed in both directions between Guilford Road and Guilford College Road since February.  

Kenny Rogers' concert scheduled for tonight at the Jamestown Savings Bank Ice Arena has been postponed to Monday because of the winter storm hitting the area. Rogers will perform in Elmira on Saturday and West Point on Sunday before coming to Jamestown. All tickets for Friday's performance will be honored, and no refunds will be given.

A scary situation for dozens of kids as they fall victim to carbon monoxide poisoning. About 30 elementary and middle school age children were taken to the emergency room after they were overcome by fumes at an overnight retreat at the First Congregational Church in Jamestown.  

There are still a lot of unknowns when it comes to Aid and Incentives to Municipalities, or AIM, money Jamestown normally gets from the state of New York. ''Normally'' is the operative word - Gov. David Paterson has threatened to withhold Dec. 15 AIM payments to municipalities across the state. It is unknown whether or not Jamestown will be one of them.
