These are confusing times for the sports fans of Denver, Colorado.
On September 12th, the Colorado Rockies held a season (and franchise) best 5 1/2 game lead over the San Francisco Giants and Florida Marlins in the NL Wildcard race.
That means, for the first in their 17 year history, the Rockies were (and are) in full control of their playoff destiny at the mid-point of September.
