Jamie Lynn Spears, 17, has kept out of the limelight since giving birth to daughter Maddie in June. Now a source tells E! Online that Ms. Spears, formerly of the Nickelodeon series Zoey 101, has been working on a country album for the past several months.

Spears hasn't done much singing 'til now, but she predicted she'd be hitting the airwaves. She told the AP in 2002, "I'll probably do a lot of acting first, then go to singing, but I am going to definitely sing someday. So when I do start singing, buy my album!"

If reports are correct, Jamie Lynn is avoiding the genre that made her big sister famous. It could actually be a smart career move; Jessica Simpson has found a warmer reception in the country industry, as has Darius Rucker of Hootie and the Blowfish.
