Great Non-Trade: Jarrod Washburn
Remember when Jarrod Washburn was having a great season and it seemed like he would be a great fit for the Yankees rotation? Well, it turns out that general manager Brian Cashman made a great decision not to trade for the lefty at the deadline.
Since the trade he’s been pretty terrible: 1-2 with a 6.81 ERA, 18 K’s and 11 walks in 37 innings over six starts.
Who could have seen that coming? Well, you should have if you have paid attention to any of Washburn’s career over the years. Before the deal he was 8-6 with a 2.64 ERA and that just isn’t Washburn.
We here at BBD knew that he couldn’t be trusted and even though Lenny would have loved to have seen them swing a deal, most of us were happy that the Bombers stayed away from this mess.
Here is what I said on the day he was traded:
“In this case Washburn has just been having too good a season and he didn’t last long enough on the market. Which is probably just as well because in the past four years Washburn has never been this good meaning there is probably going to be some regression going on for the remainder of the season. Basically it wouldn’t be smart to expect Washburn to continue to keep up his 2.64 ERA.”
