The Anaheim Ducks have released forward Kyle Calder and defenseman Jassen Cullimore in one of their final cutdowns before the regular season. Calder is a nine-year NHL veteran who joined the Ducks this month on a tryout deal, while the 36-year-old Cullimore agreed to a similar deal. Calder has 114 goals and 178 assists in a career spent mostly with Chicago. He played the last two seasons with the Los Angeles Kings, frequently skating on their top two lines. Assistant general manager Randy Sexton said Wednesday he’s still talking to the agents of some available players as well as other teams about potential trades. “We’re not going to rest in terms of improving our team,” Sexton said. “Will anything happen? I don’t know. Are we working to improve our team?
