Jay-Z (real name Shawn Corey Carter, born December 4, 1969) is an American rapper and current president and CEO of Def Jam and Roc-A-Fella Records. he co-owns The 40/40 Club, and is a part owner of the New Jersey Nets NBA team. He has been one of the most successful American rappers of the past decade. In 2006, an MTV list named him the "Greatest MC Of All Time." He married singer Beyonce Knowles in 2008. Jay-Z Plays the Yankee Victory Parade, Lauded by Mayor as 'Great New Yorker'

Is Jay-Z psychic or just that good? How could he have known the Yankees were going to win the World Series when he wrote "Empire State of Mind" and released it on his latest album, The Blueprint 3 just in time for the post season?

The Brooklyn rapper's anthemic ode to New York City has now become inextricably linked to the Yankees' 2009 World Series victory. The first step was when Jay-Z and Alicia Keyes performed the song in front of a packed stadium to open Game 2. But the deal was sealed when Jay-Z rode on a float with the New York Yankees on Friday and he was introduced as a "Great New Yorker" by Mayor Michael Bloomberg to sing the anthem once again.

It's impossible to buy that kind of instant nostalgia. And it's sure to mean massive royalties for the Hov as any highlights from the 2009 World Series will seem incomplete without "Empire State of Mind" playing in the background.

Oh and hey Sex and the City 2 comes out this summer, and can't you just see Carrie Bradshaw soaking up the city in a nice big pair of shades as Alicia Keyes sings "These streets will make you feel brand new / The lights will inspire you"? Yeah, me too.

So congratulations to the Yankees for defeating the Phillies in 6 games. And congratulations to Jay-Z for writing the most bankable song of 2009. It pays to be a Yanks fan.
