South African Recording Artist and Jazz Legend Hugh Masekela turned 70 years old over the weekend. He was in Cape Town for the Tenth Annual Cape Town Jazz Festival. Hugh Masekela, who is known for his outspoken civil rights stance, was said to be at it again this weekend during his performance. He said that South African could lose its musical magic which was created during the years of apartheid. Masekela told reports, that the colorful music, art and culture which thrived in the communities during the bleak days of segregation in danger. Natalie Cole, originally scheduled to perform at the Capital Jazz Fest on Friday, June 5, has canceled her summer touring plans due to medical issues related to her recent kidney transplant. We wish Natalie the best in her recovery and hope to have her back to perform at a future festival. However, Chaka Khan has graciously offered to step in to replace Natalie at the festival. The Fourth Annual Miami Gardens Jazz In The Gardens opened on Saturday and lived up to the expectations of music fans of all ages. The crowd of approximately 45,000 fans were on their feet for almost the entire six or more hours, as they were treated to funk, jazz, neosoul and hip hop.
