I think I’ve mentioned on here how far behind I am when it comes to listening to the cds that show up in my mailbox. It had gotten so bad that there was a box of unlistened cds that I packed when we moved (7 months ago) and still had not touched since. So, I did the only thing I could think of. I hired my friends as ninebullets interns and started handing out stacks of cds. The instructions were simple. Listen and if you think I’d like it then give it back. Otherwise, it’s yours. One of the cds that came back was ... Read Full Story

The event was simply billed as "Willie Nelson Sings the Blues," but the historic two-night stand on January 12 and 13, 2007 at Jazz at Lincoln Center was far more than that. Read Full Story

Just listen to this and tell me what the difference is between Wynton Marsalis and “Ludacris” (below). Now consider that according to Wikipedia, Marsalis “has been awarded the 2005 National Medal of Arts of the United States, the Grand Prix du Disque of the Charles Cros Academy and the Edison Award of the Netherlands, and was elected an honorary member of the Royal Academy of Music in Britain. He has received several honorary doctoral degrees, and a variety of other recognitions from Brandeis University, Brown University, Columbia University, Denison University, Haverford College, Johns Hopkins University, the Manhattan School of Music, New York University, Princeton ... Recommended THE SPECIAL:Willie Nelson and Wynton Marsalis' inaugural collaboration, Live from Jazz at Lincoln Center, New York City, was one of my nicest DVD surprises of last year; what sounded, at first blush, like a singularly peculiar paring resulted in a homey, mellow, thoroughly enjoyable blues show by two unexpectedly well-suited collaborators. That show (and its corresponding album, Two...

In response to a report that the thrice-postponed premiere of the piece was due to Wynton Marsalis's creative block, the composer's primary copyist writes, "I have the full score of the Blues Symphony complete with all seven movements. The piece is not being played in it's [sic] entirety because of a lack of rehearsal time, not because the piece has not been finished."...
