Through success and stretches of mediocrity, the Ducks seem to be defined by their goaltending. The club rode Jean-Sebastien Giguere and Ilya Bryzgalov in their Stanley Cup run two years ago, and then got on a roll with Jonas Hiller late last season. This season again has gone the way of Giguere and Hiller: Spurts of solid play but mostly inconsistent. Not one to sugarcoat a situation, Giguere put the onus on himself and his partner to lead out of last place in the Western Conference before the Ducks open a seven-game home stand Thursday against Tampa Bay. “There’s no doubt in my mind ... COLUMBUS, Ohio — As he hoped when he spoke out about his role earlier this week, Jean-Sebastien Giguere figures to get his latest shot at regaining the job as the Ducks’ No. 1 goalie. Giguere is expected to play against the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight in what would be his first game since he aggravated his groin muscle Oct. 24 against the same Blue Jackets on Fedor Tyutin ’s decisive third-period goal in a 6-4 home loss. Because of his groin issues, Giguere has been limited to just three starts where he’s gone 0-2-1 with a 3.65 goals-against average. He hasn’t won a game ... Read Full Story

Spoke at length with Ducks general manager Bob Murray , who touched on several topics in light of his team’s 6-8-2 start that has them in last place in the Pacific Division. – As he did when the Ducks were struggling midway through last season, Murray said Randy Carlyle isn’t going to be fired as coach and shouldn’t be the reason why the team has been one of the NHL’s most disappointing outfits. “Let’s get this out of the way,” Murray said. “I did stand very firm behind him and I am telling you the same thing I said last year. There’s going to ... Read Full Story

I don’t know about you but I am sick of hearing about the Anaheim Ducks. First we heard all the crying from the fans about the officiating in their loss to the Leafs a couple of weeks ago and since then there has been the goaltender controversy. This week Jean-Sebastien Giguere tells the LA Daily news that he would rather retire than be a back up goaltender. With Giguere back in the line up, the Ducks have some decisions to make. Jonas Hiller has held the fort down and played well as he started the last 6 games for the Ducks while Giguere was ... Read Full Story

Jean-Sebastien Giguere returns to the Ducks this week and made it clear that wants the chance to regain the starting job in net. Giguere voice his displeasure over his backup status to Jonas Hiller before the team left for an important four-game road trip that goes to New Jersey, Columbus, Detroit and Pittsburgh. The question now is how will Ducks general manager Bob Murray and coach Randy Carlyle deal with an unhappy goalie. The 32-year-old has been battling a nagging groin-muscle problem that’s limited him to just four games and three starts, where he’s gone 0-2-1 with 3.64 goals-against average. There is also speculation ... Read Full Story
