Poll: Would you trade Giguere?

Jean-Sebastien Giguere returns to the Ducks this week and made it clear that wants the chance to regain the starting job in net.

Giguere voice his displeasure over his backup status to Jonas Hiller before the team left for an important four-game road trip that goes to New Jersey, Columbus, Detroit and Pittsburgh. The question now is how will Ducks general manager Bob Murray and coach Randy Carlyle deal with an unhappy goalie. 

The 32-year-old has been battling a nagging groin-muscle problem that’s limited him to just four games and three starts, where he’s gone 0-2-1 with 3.64 goals-against average. There is also speculation that the Toronto Maple Leafs may be looking to take Giguere and the $11 million-plus he’s still owed through 2010-11 — he earns $6 million total this season — off the Ducks’ hands to mentor youngster Jonas Gustavsson provided they take Vesa Toskala and his $4 million salary in return.

Could there actually be in a trade being discussed between Murray and his former boss, Toronto’s Brian Burke, behind closed doors? Will Giguere be set up for some showcase games to show that he’s healthy? Would a team in this salary-cap age really take on Giguere’s salary when it isn’t certain if he can be a No. 1 goalie again? Should the Ducks go without a backup with his resume and experience even if it saves a ton of money against the cap?
