In their first game with most of their regular lineup, the Ducks took a preseason stride Monday night with a 3-2 victory night against San Jose at Honda Center.
James Wisniewski scored a short-handed goal in the third period for the game winner, and Jean-Sebastien Giguere looked much sharper with a 23-save effort in his second preseason game.
“I think it was a step in the right direction for the whole group,” Giguere said.
“I felt relaxed. I felt in control of my game. But I also... Read Full Story
Jean-Sebastien Giguere had his hands full this off-season, and that was just around his house.
Giguere’s second son, Luka , was born three months ago, giving him and his wife, Kristen , two small boys to look after with 2-year-old Maxime .
But Giguere also made a serious commitment to his summer workout regimen. He says he didn’t miss any days and worked with team massage therapist James Partida to remain loose and ready for what is expected to be a crucial training camp that starts... Read Full Story
Now three weeks into the season, the Toronto Maple Leafs look like a team in need of a goaltending switch. History says there will be others. Goalie go into slumps. Goalies become injured, and no team wins with inferior goaltending. That’s just the way it is.
Can Chicago win with Cristobal Huet? Is Ray Emery the right guy in Philadelphia? Is Chris Osgood play sharp enough to help Detroit overcome the reality that they don’t have the same level offensive firepower it had last season... Read Full Story

For the past two years, the storylines that centered around Ducks’ training camp had little to do with hockey.
In 2007, the club opened camp wondering whether Scott Niedermayer and Teemu Selanne would resume their careers. Last season it began without soon-to-be-traded Mathieu Schneider and Selanne (right), who couldn’t sign a contract because of the team’s financial bind.
This time around, the focus will be on the ice when training camp opens Sunday at Anaheim Ice.

Coach Randy Carlyle confirmed Monday what seems inevitable about the goaltending competition between Jonas Hiller and Jean-Sebastien Giguere:
It will likely carry over into the regular season.
“I think it’s always going to carry (over), until somebody clearly distinguishes themselves over the other,” Carlyle said.
Statistically, the competition has been a push.
Giguere (right) has a 2.67 goals-against average and .902 save percentage in 90 minutes of action. Hiller has a 2.70 GAA... Read Full Story

It would be easy to surmise that the acquisition of goaltender Justin Pogge would be a preliminary step toward moving another piece in the organization.
It’s no secret the Ducks are in an awkward situation with Jean-Sebastien Giguere , who last season was supplanted as the No.1 by Jonas Hiller .
But Giguere isn’t going anywhere, and Pogge gives the club a go-to goalie in case Hiller or Giguere goes down this season.
The Ducks have a host of goaltending prospects in their system, but... Read Full Story
