False Impressions by Jeffrey Archer

Book Review: False Impressions

By Jeffrey Archer

It was after a rather long time that I picked up a Jeffery Archer and was thoroughly amused when I read the author details page.

“The author has served 5 years in the House of Commons, 14 years in the House of Lords and 2 in Her Majesty’s Prisons…”

Guess there is nothing called bad publicity after all!

Here’s what the book was all about. A corrupt banker, aided by a disbarred lawyer and a gymnast who also kills with a kitchen knife, tries to make his clients get into more debt than they can handle. The main purpose being to add to his considerable art collection. The events of 9/11 in New York are also incorporated into the story to the advantage of the main protagonist, who is an Art expert no longer welcome at Sotheby’s or Christie’s.

An English Countess and a Japanese Steel Magnate along with an FBI Agent include the rest of the main cast. The story and pace is good, although some what predictable if you are an avid reader of his many novels. You will enjoy the end. Although the twist was not quite there in the tale, this time.
