Jerry Falwell is nothing if not controversial. This portal keeps track of the lively news, opinions, debates, discussions about or derived from Falwell and his preachings.

Falwell, a Virginia native and Baptist minister, fathered the "Moral Majority" movement that grew up in the 1980s. Falwell became a public figure through his TV show, the 700 club, with a style that gives us that old time Bible thumping.

Most known for for stances against drugs, promiscuity, Gay Rights and the like, Falwell has also supported the talk by founding organizations to help young pregnant women and men with drug and alcohol related problems.

Jerry Falwell has often been on the block for putting his foot in his mouth, and then trying to extract it. Most famous example, a speech in which he accused "the pagans and the abortionists and the feminists and the gays and the lesbians" for helping 9/11 happen. Then came out later the same day and apologized.

Though a health crisis in 2005 has slowed him down some, he's still on the news radar and this portal will pick it up when it happens.

Liberty University Suspends Campus Democrats Club, Says Group "Stood Against the Moral Principles" It Holds

Rev. Jerry Falwell may be dead, but his legacy still lives on at Liberty University and the divisiveness emanating from his ideology continues. The school has decided to revoke recognition of the College Democrats' chapter on its campus because the group "stood against the moral principles" held by the school and could no longer be sanctioned, according to the Lynchburg News & Advance. What a load of crap. Is this school in a communist country or is it in a democracy? This is clearly a case of censorship. The school's decision is deeply troubling and very problematic because they did not revoke recognition of the campus Republican group. This is a clear violation of freedom of speech and political organization in America.

Apparently the current president, Jerry Falwell Jr., surfaced and made some comments about the matter. If you ask me, he danced around the issued and seemed to back pedal from the school's initial hard-line position. Personally, I am pro-life, but I don't have the right to tell another person what his or her belief on the matter should be.
“That club still has the right to exist,“ Falwell said, although it cannot use the university’s name in its activities. “They still can meet on campus,“ in certain rooms, he said. “There is absolutely no animosity at all toward any of these kids. They are good, Christian kids who sit with me at ball games. I just hope they find a pro-life family organization to affiliate with so they can be endorsed by Liberty again.“ Source: Lynchburg News & Advance
Again, a clear attempt to stifle free speech. Didn't President Obama say last week, during the commencement address at Duke University last weekend that we must learn to have dialogue and discuss our differences and not take such an unyielding position? I realize that this is a private institution, but people have a right to their own opinion and the right to free speech. This university should not be engaging in censorship of any kind.
