Why then has Warner not only refused to take part in the traditional League of Women Voters debate, but he has canceled a scheduled debate before federal retirees in Hampton? Posted by Cato May 31, 2008 Former Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore has just received the Republican nomination to replace retiring Sen. John Warner. His opponent for the nomination was Del. Bob Marshall. The nomination was decided at this weekend’s RPV State Convention in Richmond. The final tally: 5,222 Gilmore 5,157 Marshall Gilmore’s margin of victory was only 65 delegate votes, or less than 0.63%. Former Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore, candidate for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by the retiring Sen. Perhaps most of that money has been spent on building a campaign infrastructure that will get him through November. If not, Gilmore could be facing a fiscal crisis of his own.
