Jim Lehrer (born May 19, 1934 in Wichita, KS) is a journalist and news anchor for The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer on PBS. He has moderated several U.S. Presidential debates.

The New York Times reports that the "Newshour," PBS' signature nightly newscast, is undergoing some important changes. A program that has no tolerance for over-saturated, breathless coverage of non-stories (are you listening cable news?) is attempting to become more relevant to its audience and its times. While the aforementioned story suggests that these changes do not mean that Jim Lehrer is moving into retirement, the changes will allow PBS executives to gain a better appreciation for who might replace him. And for the record, I hope Judy Woodruff becomes the principal co-anchor. Read Full Story

When it comes to guerrilla tactics to influence an election campaign, Lehrer is a pro! Katie, your tactic of linking the McCain campaign to “the Great Depression” by asking Sarah Palin a leading question (If this doesn’t pass, do you think there’s a risk of another Great Depression?) then going to McCain and asking “And using rhetoric like the Great Depression, is that the kind of language Americans need to hear right now?” had you ahead of Lehrer.
