Joaquin Benoit and the Texas Rangers agreed to a two-year contract extension. He will make $2 million next year and $3.5 million in 2009. He will also get a signing bonus worth $500,000. He could have become a free agent after next season. Fri Jan 30th 2009 Texas Rangers right-handed reliever Joaquin Benoit could miss the 2009 season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder. Dr. Timothy Kremchek, the Cincinnati Reds' medical director, performed the operation Tuesday and said Benoit may be able to return in the second half of the season. Joaquin Benoit missed nearly two months of the 2008 Texas Rangers season with right shoulder inflammation. Benoit, 31, is the second Rangers pitcher to have rotator cuff surgery in the last week.
