Joe Lacob and Peter Guber Buy Golden State Warriors

Joe Lacob is about to come a household name -- well, if those houses are full of sports fans. The businessman, who's already a minority owner of the Boston Celtics, went in with film producer Peter Guber today to buy the Golden State Warriors for a whopping $450 million.

The huge sum easily topples the previous record, set back in 2004 when the Phoenix Suns were bought for $401 million.

Lacob is a managing partner at the private equity firm Kleiner Perkins. He told SFGate.com of his big purchase, "This is not just buying a company. This was an auction against some very wealthy people and very talented and capable people. To win this thing is fantastic. It's amazing. We also think we'll have the right process going forward, and we think we're the right people to do it."
