John Frusciante sounds like he was never even in the Red Hot Chili Peppers. As the guitarist of the wildly popular band, John can be credited with writing the most funkalicious riffs of all time (see “Suck My Kiss”). As a solo artist, however, Frusciante’s work is ruminative, darkly atmospheric, and oddly, a bit electro. His songs often incorporate a drum machine and a blipping synth to accompany his beautiful voice. Listen to any Chili Pepper song carefully, and you will see that he is the master of harmonies. Some of his tracks, such as “Murderers,” are purely instrumental, while others are just Frusciante ... Read Full Story

Hey. I'm a happy boy today because one of my favorite musicians, John Frusciante started a blog and we also got official word that his new album, The Empyrean , will indeed feature the usual suspects ( Josh Klinghoffer and Flea ), as well as Johnny Marr (yeah him ), the Sonus Quartet and the New Dimension Singers. Awesome. I know this probably doesn't mean alot to anyone who reads my blog, but I have been smiling all day. For a refresher on John's music, check out my previous post on the matter here . For those that are unaware of the true driving force behind the Red Hot Chili Peppers - I introduce to you the quiet genius that is John Frusciante. His latest solo project is beautiful, deep, and the truest measure of musical mastery in times saturated with pop crap. His songs will lift you up if you seek enlightenment and an expanded musical experience. The man is an amazingly, gifted talent. I have been a fan of his ever since he emerged as a teenager with RHCP in the mid 80’s. He hit a rough patch in his life with drug addiction, but what gifted ... Read Full Story

I love John Frusciante’s music. He may very well be my favorite rock guitar player. But, this interview is a great example of why you need to stay off of drugs. This took place in 1994 after the Blood Sugar Sex Magic tour when John quit the band. The video shows clips of him on tour and the interview happens about two years later. Notice how dramatically his appearance has changed in such a short time. He doesn’t even look like himself. During this time he lived in squalor and caused so much damage to himself that he nearly died. His body still carries ... Read Full Story
