John Lithgow was awarded an Emmy before the televised show last night. He played a serial killer in the fourth season of Dexter .  The Academy awarded him 'Outstading Guest Actor in a Drama' for his performance. The Emmys are considered the television equivalent to the Academy Awards (for film), Grammy Awards (for music), and Tony Awards (for stage).  In other words, they are a BIG deal, especially to those in the TV industry.
