A community portal about John Wayne with blogs, videos, and photos. According to Wikipedia.org: John Wayne, popularly known as "The Duke," was an Academy Award winning, American film actor whose career began in silent movies in the 1920s. He was a major star from the 1940s to the 1970s. He is famous for his distinctive delivery and walk. While his acting didn't show great range, he was very effective within his limits. He featured heavily in Westerns and World War II epics, but he also made a wide range of films from various genres, biographies, romantic comedies, police dramas, and more. He epitomized a certain kind of rugged individualistic masculinity, and has become an enduring American icon. In 1999, the American Film Institute named Wayne among the Greatest Male Stars of All Time, ranking at No. 13.

The Washington Post’s Ezra Klein says that by opposing the final health care bill, Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) “seems willing to directly cause the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people in order to settle an old electoral score." As both Mark Hemingway and J.P. Freire of The Washington Examiner noticed, Klein edited his post, removing the word “directly”—that was, apparently, too much—but leaving his nuanced argument that Lieberman is...

They don't make stars like Wayne and Douglas any more - and they don't make movie posters like this, either! One of our favorite fun Westerns is director Burt Kennedy's 1967 opus The War Wagon which pits John Wayne and Kirk Douglas as rival gunslingers who form a reluctant partnership to knock off an armored wagon carrying a fortune in gold. The War Wagon itself is a doozy worthy of approval by James Bond's Q: the seemingly impregnable...

Warner Home Video will release John Wayne's The Green Berets as a Blu-ray DVD on January 5, 2010. The release will include the original trailer and vintage production featurette. Given the controversies that persist about the movie, it's a bit frustrating that there won't be any new special features covering the film's legacy.
