This post will probably be another botched attempt at a movie review but what the hell. We went to see Public Enemies on Saturday. First of all we went to see the 7:10 showing and there was a gentleman standing at the end of the hall of the theater telling people that the movie might start a little late (20 minutes or something like that) no big deal. Well the movie doesn't start at all because there is something wrong with the projector so we are sent across the theater with tickets in hand... Read Full Story
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Michael Mann's John Dillinger movie "Public Enemies" is slow to heat up and never quite comes to a boil. The elements are certainly here with the always charismatic Johnny Depp as the Depression-era bank robber and, in some quarters, idolized Robin Hood and Marion Cotillard, off her Oscar win, as his lady friend. But Mann and co-writers Ronan Bennett and Ann Biderman never crack the meaning of John Dillinger. The film veers between fact and legend, sticking... Read Full Story

By: Mike Scalise When the first trailer for Tim Burton's live-action take on Lewis Carroll's 'Alice in Wonderland' premiered at Comic-Con in July, it seemed like Burton had all the pieces in place for another goth-stained, Burtonesque classic: Mia Wasikowska as a 19-year-old Alice, Helena Bonham Carter as the diminutive, treacherous Red Queen, Anne Hathaway as the rival White Queen, and Johnny Depp's orange-haired Mad Hatter bouncing manically in between them. But we only caught glimpses of... Read Full Story

We ran a story several weeks ago about Michael Mann shooting the climactic scene of Public Enemies in the same spot where that scene played out historically. That stuff happens in movies. JFK is a great example, probably the best one of the past 20 years or so, of relying on actual locations to add authenticity to the film.
For Public Enemies , it turns out quite a bit of the major scenes were shot in the very spots where John Dillinger ( Johnny Depp ) developed his nationwide notoriety... Read Full Story
In this part of the panel Tim Burton came out with Patton Oswault and they chatted about the movie and elements of film especially why Burton was drawn to the project and finally the elements from Lewis Carroll’s books.
