August 1, 2009. This date marked a new era of Corvette Racing . Corvette has always participated in the American Le Mans Racing Series within the GT1 class. However, the first of this month debuted the Corvette C6.R into the GT2 class in the Mid-Ohio race. Ever since entering into the GT1 class back in 1995, Corvette Racing has remained strong and relentless. Others racing vehicles have come and gone, like the Dodge Viper, Aston Martin DBR9 and Ferrari 575. 2004 proved to be a very good year for Corvette Racing after having dominated competition within 24 Hours of Le Mans, 24 Hours of Daytona, 12 Hours of Sebring, and at multiple ALMS championships. That same year, the racing team began using a skull logo and the motto, “Take No Prisoners”, to clearly emphasize their power within the racing world. Corvette Racing came to a lull when GM decided to cancel production on a Corvette-based prototype… the C7R LMP1 . The vehicle was expected to be apart of the LeMans “Evo” class, a combination of both the GT1 and LMP1 classes. Competition for this class would have included the Porsches, Ferraris, BMWs, Aston Martins, etc. However, plans for such Evo class were cancelled due to cost constraints and LMP1 teams failing to comply. Auto racing Corvette Racing GT1 will have a new driver lineup for the 2009 American Le Mans Series and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Antonio Garcia will join defending ALMS GT1 champions Johnny O'Connell and Jan Magnussen in the No. 3 Compuware Corvette C6.R for the Sebring 12-hour, Le Mans 24-hour, and 1000-mile Petit Le Mans endurance races.
