I have nothing against brevity. In journalism, it is one of the revered A-B-C traditions we strive to practice (the A standing for accuracy, the C for clarity). I always seek to honor it, even when I falter. I relish short stories, too. And, I'm in awe of haiku, the Japanese form of poetry that calls for wisdoms to be verbalized in 17 syllables.
