CLEMSON, S.C., Dec. 6 (UPI) -- Tanner Smith's 14 points and 10 rebounds Sunday powered 19th-ranked Clemson to a 72-61 win over arch-rival South Carolina. Clemson led just 32-29 at the half, and its pressure defenses kept USC at bay in the second 20-minute stanza, with Smith's layup giving Clemson a 52-42 advantage with 11:27 remaining. WASHINGTON, Dec. 6 (UPI) -- Chris Wright and Henry Sims scored 12 points each Saturday, boosting 14th-ranked Georgetown to a 73-46 win over American. Georgetown used its starters sparingly after building an early 32-16 lead, and American trailed 63-32 with just under 8 minutes remaining. Julian Vaughn had 11 points and seven rebounds, while Greg Monroe, Jason Clark and Austin Freeman each scored nine points for the Hoyas (6-0). Monroe also had 13 rebounds and blocked four shots. The blowout victory was tempered by the back fracture sustained by guard Evan Turner. He fell hard on his back after missing a dunk early in the first half and will miss the next eight weeks. LEXINGTON, Ky., Dec. 5 (UPI) -- Freshmen Eric Bledsoe and John Wall scored their team's last seven points Saturday, boosting fourth-ranked Kentucky to a 68-66 win over No. 11 North Carolina. Saturday's victory in the battle of college basketball's winningest programs lifted the Wildcats to an 8-0 start in the 2009-10 season. Kentucky dominated the first half and held a 43-28 halftime lead, but UNC, the reigning national champion, stayed close by forcing 20 turnovers. Texas A&M won its third straight and climbed to 7-1. Sloan scored 17 points and Derrick Roland had 15 to go with eight rebounds.
