The Producers Guild of America will honor Joss Whedon with its 2010 Vanguard Award at the 21st Annual PGA Awards ceremony January 24 at the Hollywood Palladium.
The creative force behind the TV series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Angel,” “Firefly” and “Dollhouse,” Whedon has also written screenplays for the features “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Toy Story,” “Atlantis: the Lost Empire,” “Alien: Resurrection,” “Titan A.E.” and “Serenity.”
“Joss Whedon has mastered the art of melding the... Read Full Story
Sure, Joss Whedon is still working on Dollhouse (and we'll tell you all about that next week), but he's got lots of other things going and he tells TV Guide Magazine all about it. How's your deal going to buy the rights to the Terminator franchise? You put up a couple of bucks, I hear. I haven't heard back but I've made it clear that this is a non-exclusive offer that other people can have the rights, too. I just have them also. That's a good bargaining chip. You crunch those numbers and... Read Full Story

One of SF literature's leading ladies recently scooped a 6th Nebula Award for her novel 'Powers'. Author of masterworks such as 'The Lathe of Heaven', Le Guin is known for her thematic similarities to Philip K Dick, whom she once described as the American Borges. This is awesome news. SF has a rich history of female authorship which is sometimes ignored/overlooked by the mainstream (see Joanna Russ' ' The Female Man' ) Good work Ursula! Joss Whedon has won Nebula's prestigious Ray Bradbury... Read Full Story
Maybe you've heard that they're remaking the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie instead of spinning off the TV series into a film. If you've hadn't heard about that until now, Joss Whedon won't be involved, which is strange since he not only created the characters and wrote the film, but of course, has been the driving force in the Buffyverse ever since.
But Whedon tells Entertainment Weekly that the producers of the new film did contact his agent to gauge his interest in returning in some... Read Full Story
This seems to me to be the worst idea imaginable. I mean, bring back Buffy the Vampire Slayer as a movie - that doesn't bother me at all - but to do it without Joss Whedon ? That is development suicide.
Fran Rubel Kuzui, who directed the original film based on Whedon's script, is involved in the remake of the first movie, with Vertigo Entertainment producing. According to The Hollywood Reporter , "The new Buffy film, however, would have no connection to the TV series, nor would it use... Read Full Story
Having survived the 1994 Northridge earthquake (scariest experience in my life), I've come to think that Hwood, being built upon a grinding set of tectonic plates, is both sympatico and ironic. The entertainment industry has always been subject to slip-thrust faults shifting underfoot, either through technological advances, cultural changes, economics, or all simultaneously. So I would not be surprised to hear that folks on the Westside felt a little temblor last Saturday night, emanating... Read Full Story
In the new Rolling Stone, there's an interview with writer-director Joss Whedon . Not that I'm fixated on Whedon -- like Joss Whedon's 10 writing tips or another interview with him , or this feature on him , or this fawning post -- but let's just say that my entire family has never fully recovered from Fox (bastards!) canceling Whedon's TV series "Firefly" . Well, it looks like Whedon is positioning himself so that he never has to deal with doltish TV executives again. How's he doing that... Read Full Story
Friday the 13th seems to have an awful lot going for it this year. Much of it revolves around science fiction of course, given the return of FOX’s Terminator:L The Sarah Connor Chronicles and final season of Battlestar Galactica, which personally I can’t wait to see. In addition to all of these things though (as if it wasn’t enough) we’ll also get to see the premiere of Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse. Terminator has a pretty rock solid fan base at this point and I know I’ll be watching Battlestar... Read Full Story

Apparently Hollywood does not understand how cult status works. Since Twilight has been busy at the box office making lots of money, someone out in La-La-Land wants to bring Buffy back to the big screen. Without Joss Whedon’s participation. ‘Cause that went so well the first time (coughDonaldSutherlandsuckscough).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the director of the abominable much-hated-by-Joss 1992 film, Fran Rubel Kuzui, and her husband... Read Full Story
