Lunar Eclipse Today

Penumbral Lunar Eclipse will occur on today night, where the Moon will just brush the outer edges of the outer shadow of the Earth. According to Hindu News - The moon rises over Australia and sets in western North and South America in the early predawn hours, Science Popularization Association of Communicators and Educators (SPACE) Director C.B Devgun said.

Lunar Eclipse can occur only when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are very closely so, with the Earth in the middle. SPACE Director C.B Devgun says "The phenomenon is only of academic interest since the magnitude of the eclipse is just 0.156 at its maximum."

The first Penumbral Lunar Eclipse occur at 8:37:51 Universal Time (UT) and end at 10:39:23 UT. The point of greatest eclipse occurs at about 09:38:37.9 UT. In Australia Maximum eclipse is 7:30 P.M AEDST, 7:00 pm ACDST and 5:30 pm AWST.

The Lunar eclipse will be visible in North America west of the Great Lakes, Hawaii, and Alaska. The moon also high the sky over New Zealand and eastern Australia during the eclipse. The next eclipse of the Moon is a penumbral eclipse on July 7, 2009.
