To operate a motorized watercraft in Canada, boaters must carry proof of competence. For the vast majority of boaters, this means earning a Pleasure Craft Operator Card ( pcoc ). Proof of competence must be carried on all motorized crafts, even if the motor is turned off, and even if the motor is an attached auxiliary or troller.
