The team that rescued Italian racer Cesare Vismara from a racing crash and attempted life saving actions before Vismara succumbed to his injuries is looking to develop a permanent memorial to the fallen world champion.

Vismara was killed Oct. 16 in a three-vessel crash during racing at the International Jet Sports Boating Association Personal Watercraft World Finals at Crazy Horse Beach.

Shawn Alladio, who heads up the K38 Water Safety Rescue Team, announced plans to develop a Vismara stature and memorial plaque of the No. 1 Serbia (SRB) race plate and present both to Lake Havasu City during the Parade of Nations at the 2010 World Finals.

“Cesare loved the Parade of Nations and looked forward to it every year,” Alladio wrote in the announcement.

Vismara was an Italian national that raced and won the national title for Team Serbia. He was a week away from receiving his Serbian citizenship when the crash occurred.

“We must not forget who the true champions are. Those who are gracious even under pressure, under discouragement, default, disappointment and loss,” Alladio wrote on the http://k38watersafety.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2509
Web site. “I feel for each racer, and their moment of glory, won or lost. I feel for Cesare, his race team, those involved in the accident, for his family's loss and grief.”

Following the crash, Veljko Sukalo, president of Jet Ski Savez Srbije (Team Serbia), said he is working with race officials to develop two races in Vismara’s memory – one in Serbia and the other in Lake Havasu City.

“He loved Lake Havasu, he loved America,” Sukalo said Oct. 16.

Vismara’s was the first death during racing in the 28 years the World Finals had been staged on Lake Havasu.

Anyone interested in participating in the memorial may contact Alladio via the K38 Web site at
