RENO, Nev. - Even though winter's approach means there are fewer boats on Lake Tahoe, any watercraft launched will continue to be inspected for the presence of invasive mussels. A U.S. Virgin Islands resident drifted in the Atlantic overnight on his disabled jet ski before being rescued by Coast Guard searchers some 10 miles (16 kilometers) northwest of St. Thomas. The islands' Department of Natural Resources identified the man as Junior Estrella, 32, a native of the Dominican Republic who lives in the U.S. territory. LOGAN — Bear Lake has tested negative for invasive quagga mussels.
Eight quagga mussel traps that had been in the lake since April were pulled from Bear Lake Wednesday.
Scott Tolentino, fisheries manager with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, says each of the traps came up clean.
This is the second year the Division of Wildlife Resources has conducted testing in the northern Utah lake.
