The big ocean liners put in 2-3 a time at Kailua-Kona. The shopping and restaurants there love the tourists. It is a deep and scenic harbor that was known for exporting cattle and sugar cane. This road was the short cut between Hilo and Kailua-Kona. Only locals knew of it and it was not signed.for tourist use. No gas, no accommodations it was for the islanders. Then one day the government tore it up and this vista is gone. The Chamber Orchestra of Kona and the West Hawaii Dance Academy will present "Holiday Treats," a music and dance festival, at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Kona International Market in Kailua-Kona, and at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Kealakekua at the Christ Church Episcopal Community Center. Sunday's concert is free, while Tuesday's concert is $10 for general admission, $5 for students and seniors (62 years and older) and no fee for children 5 and younger.
