Pavlik was to fight Williams at Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall in one of the year's most anticipated bouts, but promoter Top Rank announced Wednesday that Pavlik is unable to make a fist or punch with the injured hand. Middleweight world champion Kelly Pavlik has postponed his title defence against Paul Williams on December 5 because of a slow-healing infection in his left hand, the Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday. The fight was scheduled for Atlantic City, but Pavlik was unable to begin training because of a stubborn staph infection. Pavlik, the World Boxing Council champion, has already had surgery to remove a tendon from one of the fingers on his left hand that had been infected by staph.
